What a Morning at Growls & Meows and Dr. Tamara Murphy, DVM in Cisne. It was the perfect remedy to a cold December morning learning more about their business and services offered! Jeff and Mary bought a pet store in Flora many years ago out of their passion and love for animals where they began learning the art of dog grooming. Two poor poodles took the brunt of them perfecting their skills! Eventually, Mary and Jeff, closed the store in Flora and brought their grooming and boarding services in house... literally, in their home where they continued to welcome families pets into their home and treat them as their own. Their daughter Tamara naturally felt the call to continue in the family business. She started out at OCC and then headed to the University of Illinois for both undergrad and vet school. During her training, Jeff, Mary and Tamara had a serious heart to heart about the future and Tamara expressed her desire to return to her hometown and open a vet clinic along side her parents boarding and grooming services. Mary, who is a licensed, Physical Therapy Assistant, along with Tamara have since increased their training and knowledge to include rehabilitative services for animals. A unique offering is the hydro-treadmill therapy. A treadmill... underwater... that can be accommodated for any size pooch... chihuahua to a St. Bernard!
Mary explained that much of their marketing is community involvement, social media, and word of mouth! Because of their willingness to offer emergent and weekend services, they have seen their business go from 1500 clients (when they were working out of their house) to over 5,000 in their new facility, that they learn each day... they've already outgrown!
Growls and Meows will be open during Cisne's Christmas in the Park tonight night, December 6th, for a petting zoo and hot cocoa! Be sure you stop in!
