Wayne County CEO Students visited Rush Appliance and Furniture in Fairfield on Wednesday, March 4th. Shawn Rush, Manager, shared the history of the store that has been in business for 75 years! His grandfather began selling Maytag products door to door in 1926. He explained to students that it is very meaningful to him to be a third generation dealer and salesman of appliances in Fairfield. He also explained his son is learning the business from the ground up and is the future of their retail operation. Service is the name of the game at Rush Appliance & Furniture and that is what sets them apart from the competition.

Shawn is also the owner and operator of the Green Pig in Fairfield. He explained that, that business grew out of his passion of smoking meats and a love of food! That operation is growing and expanding into the development and distribution of their own sauce as well as catering and two food trucks.

Shawn's presentation was insightful and educational. He spoke about as a manager what he looks for in an employee. He also talked about the risk he takes each day as a small business owner/operator and the fact that while he is incredibly blessed, there is really not a day when he doesn't put in some hours toward one or both of his businesses. One of our students noted that in his first few sentences, she knew she was "gonna like this guy!"
